Coffee that is lightly roasted retains more caffeine by weight, because the roasting process has not yet removed as much of the caffeine oils that a dark roast would have eliminated.
The tricky part however is that because there are more oils remaining in each bean, the bean is heavier, so you'd use less actual coffee beans per cup if you measure your doses by weight as most espresso machines require.
Then again, if your measuring by volume only, the lighter roast will have more caffeine compared to the same volume of dark roasted coffee.
