A message to our valued Coffee Bean Shop customers regarding coffee bean pricing

Dear Coffee Lovers,

An Important Update on Our Pricing
After maintaining the same prices since 2011, we’ve made the difficult but necessary decision to adjust our pricing structure at Bay Beans.

Why Now?
Over the past 19 years, we’ve absorbed countless cost increases—from green coffee beans and sustainable packaging to rising shipping costs and fair labor practices. Throughout this time, we’ve remained committed to delivering exceptional coffee directly to your door without passing these costs on to you.

The Coffee Landscape Has Changed
Since 2011, we’ve witnessed:
• Green coffee prices climbing by over 40%
• Shipping and logistics costs more than doubling.
• Packaging materials increasing by 35%
• Our commitment to paying fair wages to everyone in our supply chain

How We Compare in Today’s Market
We’ve carefully researched the current specialty coffee market to ensure our new pricing remains competitive while maintaining our quality standards. For transparency, here’s how premium coffee is currently priced across the industry (total cost including delivery):
• Coffee Bean Shop (new pricing): $49.97/kg (includes free delivery on $100 spend)
• 5 Senses: $81.20-92.70 total ($68/kg + $13.20-24.70 delivery)
• 8 at Trinity: $81 total ($68/kg + $13 delivery)
• Paradox Roasters: $73.09 total ($64/kg + $9.09 delivery)
• Wide Open Road: $71.95-79.95 total ($64-72/kg + $7.95 delivery, free over $80)
• Caramelenzo: $64 total ($55/kg + $9 shipping)
• Micrology: $65 total ($55/kg + $10 shipping)

Despite these challenges, we’ve maintained our prices through operational efficiencies and accepting slimmer margins. However, we’ve reached a point where we need to make an adjustment to ensure we can continue providing the quality you expect.

Our Promise to You
Even with this price adjustment, we remain committed to:
• Sourcing the highest quality beans through direct relationships with farmers
• Roasting in small batches to ensure peak freshness
• Including free delivery with every order (a savings of $5-25 compared to many competitors)
• Providing the exceptional customer service you’ve come to expect

When you factor in our included delivery, Bay Beans will continue to offer exceptional value compared to other premium coffee providers.

New Pricing
Our updated prices will be:
• Specialty beans: $49.70/kg (includes free delivery)

Even with this adjustment, when you factor in the included delivery service (an average of $25 value compared to competitors), Coffee Bean Shop continues to offer exceptional value in the premium coffee market. This adjustment allows us to continue investing in quality and personalised service while ensuring our business remains sustainable for years to come.

Thank You
Your support has meant everything to us over these past 19 years. We don’t take price increases lightly, and we’re deeply grateful for your continued trust in Coffee Bean Shop.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

With gratitude,
James Axisa

Heres how much you'll save making coffee at home to beat the cost of living Crisis in 2024

7/8/2024

Picture
How does making coffee at home compare to paying for coffee at your favorite café? Before we dive into the details, think about how much you might spend annually if you buy two coffees a day. Got that figure? Great, let's proceed.
As of 2024, the average café coffee costs $5.50, though prices can vary between $4.20 and $7.00 depending on the location and your choices. Extras like alternative milks can add between $0.50 to $1.00, and additional espresso shots have similar costs.
If you typically have a coffee in the morning to kickstart your day and another mid-morning, that’s $11 spent daily. If you’re like me, you might add an afternoon coffee to beat the mid-afternoon slump.
Now, let’s break down the numbers, assuming just 2 cups per day:
  • 2 café coffees per day at $5.50 each = $11.00
  • $77 per week on café coffee
  • $334.50 per month
  • That’s $4015 per year for two café coffees daily.
Consider that: $4,000 per year for just two coffees a day, for one person. This doesn’t account for coffees for your partner, friends, or colleagues. If you enjoy coffee more frequently, say 4 or 5 times a day, you’re looking at $10,000 annually.
Given the current inflation and cost of living, saving money is crucial. If cutting out your daily coffee isn’t an option because it’s a luxury you cherish, consider a better alternative: making café-quality coffee at home.
Investing in an espresso machine and using top-quality coffee beans, like those from Coffee Bean Shop, is the solution. A 1kg bag of Coffee Bean Shop beans costs just $39.70, delivered to your door, and makes 144 shots of coffee (or 70 double-shot coffees), costing only 57 cents per coffee. If you add premium milk at $4.50 for 2 liters, which is enough for 14 large coffees, it’s 33 cents per latte or flat white. Combining these costs, that’s only 90 cents per coffee!
Annually, that’s $4,000 versus $657 – a saving of $3,343.
Sure, you’ll need to consider the cost of the machine, but imagine the quality machine you could buy and own as an asset for $3,343. Your machine could be paid off quickly with these savings, and the extra savings could be spent on a holiday, dining out, enjoying live performances, or simply easing the cost of living. What you do with over $3,500 per year is entirely up to you. Additionally, considering the income tax you’ve already paid on that $3,500, it’s like getting a pay rise of $5,000!

Coffee Pods and Capsules, are they the future of coffee?

12/7/2021

Coffee capsules have gained high acceptance among consumers in recent years due to the growth in the demand for instant non-alcoholic drinks. Coffee producers choose coffee capsules due to their suitability, comfort of use, and a wide diversity of coffee products and machinery. Furthermore, the proliferation of premium coffee shops, such as Starbucks, has stimulated consumers’ appetite for high-end, fresh-brewed coffee. This has increased the demand for coffee capsules. Nespresso and Nescafe Dolce Gusto brands play a significant role in the capsule market. Other single-serve brands associated with technology that contribute to increasing the value/volume share ratio include Keurig, the JacobsDouweEgberts, Tassimo, and Senseo, all owned by JAB. Evolving packaging technologies and the ability to compete with exotic or sophisticated brands resulted in the growth of coffee capsules.

Europe Leads the Coffee Pods and Capsules Market

The European market has witnessed a rise in the demand for specialty coffees and single-serve methods during the past few years. With the rise in market value for coffee pods and capsules, the number of private-label players entering the market is expected to increase in the European region over the forecast period. However, the environmental concern related to the packaging of coffee pods and capsules is hindering the growth rate in the region.? Thus, several new entrants are coming up with innovative and sustainable packing solutions. For instance, Cru Kafe, a London-based Coffeepreneurs who has constantly worked to minimize the footprint left on the planet, with biodegradable packaging and no chemicals in the organic coffee, had come up with compostable pods in 2017. Thus, with high product and packaging innovations, the European region remains dominant in the global coffee pods and capsules market.

The report evaluates the market across each region and for the major economies within each region.June 15, 2021 11:30 ET | Source: The Business Research Company

LONDON, June 15, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Business Research Company’s latest research on the bars and cafés market provides the reader with detailed market data on the bar and cafe market’s competitive landscape including bars and cafes market major players, bars and cafes market share by company, and more.
The global bars and cafés market is fragmented, with a large number of small players. The top ten competitors in the market made up to 7.9% of the total market in 2020. This is partially due to the existence of a number of local players in the market serving customers in particular geographies. Starbucks was the largest competitor with a 5.71% share of the market, followed by Restaurant Brands International, Buffallo Wild Wings, Dukins, McCafé, Lavazza, Whitbread, Café Coffee Day, Dave & Buster's, and Dane NYC.
Bars And Cafes Market Trends And Strategies
Changing tastes according to the regional preferences of customers is one key trend in the bars and cafés market. Companies in the bars and cafés market are increasingly offering different food and beverage options based on local and regional tastes. Many food services such as Starbucks and McDonald’s have gone global by accommodating the regional preferences while keeping their core structure of the cuisine intact. Innovation in recipes, amalgamation in inter-border cuisines, and offering multiple cuisines under the same roof has become a popular model for entering new markets.
For instance, in 2016, Starbucks acquired Princi for an undisclosed amount as an attempt to merge the regional preferences of the consumers and offer a local experience. Princi was an Italian bakery chain with outlets in Milan and London. Post-acquisition, the company will operate under Starbucks’ brand name and planned to establish new outlets in Shanghai, China and New York, USA by 2018.
The Business Research Company’s report titled Bars And Cafes Global Market Report 2021: COVID-19 Impact And Recovery To 2030 covers bars and cafés market growth rate, bars and cafés market size, bars and cafés market forecasts, bars and cafés market trends and drivers.
The global bars and cafés market size is expected to grow from $335.6 billion in 2020 to $513 billion in 2025 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.9%. The market is expected to grow to $659.5 billion in 2030 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.2%.
The increase in disposable income is expected to fuel the growth of the bars and cafés market in the coming years. Disposable income, also known as disposable personal income (DPI), is the amount of income available to an individual or household once income taxes are subtracted. Many developed and developing countries are expected to experience consistent economic development, resulting in more disposable incomes and, as a result, increased spending on services such as bars and cafés.

The segment is expected to garner the largest market share of the worldwide decaf coffee market.

Coffee beans delivery during Covid is still very fast

25/8/2020

Picture
Both Australia Post and our courier partners are doing their best to deliver as fast as possible, but there are delays at times. Here’s what Australia Post has to say;

24 August 2020

With our business adapting to the challenges the current pandemic presents, our normal practice of delivery has been impacted.
There are delivery delays in our network due to:
  1. reduction in air freight capacity and passenger flights (which also carry our parcels)
  2. a significant increase in parcels volumes, many which require manual sorting
  3. hygiene and social distancing requirements in our network (such as social distancing through zoning, dedicated shift start times to reduce cross over of workers)

Express Post delays

As a result of these unprecedented circumstances, our Express Post service is seeing significant delays in delivery. This means that while we continue to prioritise Express Post, and most parcels shipped via this service arrive on time, some could take five business days or more to reach their destination. We know these delays are frustrating, and we’re doing everything we can to keep delivering as safely and quickly as possible.

What is the difference between Iced Coffee and Cold Brew Coffee?

What is the difference between Iced Coffee and Cold Brew Coffee?
What is the difference between Iced Coffee and Cold Brew Coffee?
Have you ever wanted to try cold brew coffee but were not sure how to make it? It takes longer to make Cold Brew compared to Iced Coffee where with Iced Coffee, you add Ice Cubes and to brewed coffee to chill the coffee. I sometimes like to add cold milk for that extra creamy taste.

If you want to try it, all you need to do is drop 40 grams of ground coffee into large glass, top it off with cold water, stir and then place some cling wrap over the glass. Pop it in the fridge overnight and enjoy your homemade Cold Brew.

You’ll be surprised how smooth your coffee can be - I’ve got a nice cold Cold Brew waiting in the fridge for me!

Drinking chocolate powder for delicious hot chocolate in Australia

Drinking chocolate powder for delicious hot chocolate in Australia
Drinking chocolate powder for delicious hot chocolate in Australia
Its hard to find a high quality drinking chocolate that is perfect for Hot Chocolate and also great as a sprinkle on Cappuccino. Cadbury'sand a few other Australian companies supply drinking chocolate, but its expensive and when it comes to your cafe or business, its just not good enough.

We've been providing our cafe customers with this 2kg pack of dark drinking chocolate for around ten years and have recently added it to the online store, so you can grab a bag anytime. This creamy drinking chocolate, which is actually better known as Milk Chocolate, but in the world of drinking chocolate, the name Milk Chocolate is reserved for white chocolate - confused? I certainly was. To make it easier, this dark chocolate is the one you'll use when making a hot chocolate, its also the chocolate you'd use for sprinkling on cappuccino.

If you're buying this for home, and you've got kids in the house - 2kg will last you about a week... well, it feels like that in my house! Its going to last you a while, so you wont have to worry about running out in a hurry. It comes packaed in a zip lock resealable bag too. I sometimes share my bag with a family friend, but mostly keep it all to ourselves. If you're running a cafe, this is absolutely what you need to go with your coffee.

Sunday is the day of the week where I can sit down with a coffee and reflect on the days gone by. No distractions, no disruptions, just me and a coffee and my mind.

I think of my Sunday morning coffee as 15 minutes of me time.Without it, I think my weekend would be very different!

What are the benefits of a2 Milk for coffee?

The benefits of a2 milk when steaming milk for coffee
The benefits of a2 milk when steaming milk for coffee
A2 milk just costs more - that's a fact. But, is there a benefit?

The answer is yes, well, kind of yes. Let me explain. A2 milk benefits from a more consistent feed, and usually a higher quality feed, which results in a higher quality milk that also contains more proteins. All this goes for producing a better quality steamed milk - with a bit of technique, a velvet smooth and creamy milk for your flat white or cappuccino.

If you don't want to pay the premium for a2 milk, there is an alternative in regular milk - reach for the full fat variety instead of the low fat alternative - the sugars in regular full fat milk will allow for a fuller and more creamy result compared to low fat milk or skim milk

The best way to remove sugar from your coffee

The best way to remove sugar from your coffee
The best way to remove sugar from your coffee
if your like me you enjoy the sweetness of sugar in your coffee and trying a coffee without sugar is confronting!

It’s just the way you’ve always ordered coffee, “two sugars and milk”. Before coffee became right it was the only way you could drink coffee, and that’s what everybody ordered.

But times have changed and the quality of coffee for most people has improved dramatically. We now have access to fresh roasted coffee beans and proper coffee machines in almost every suburban cafe and a lot of homes and offices.

One way to enjoy a naturally sweet coffee is with the technique that the italians call Ristretto, that means to cut the coffee extraction process in half which results in the sweetest part of the coffee landing in your cup, and the second half of the coffee is discarded.

The next time you order a coffee give it a try, order a Ristretto if you usually enjoy an espresso, or a flat white made from a Doubleshot Ristretto If you usually enjoy milk based coffees.

Ordering ristretto will halve the amount of coffee in your cup since you are discarding the second half of the extraction, however, that first half of the extraction is the sweetest part of the coffee. So where you may have previously ordered a single shot, now you will be ordering a double shot but with the same volume as a single shot.

If you’d like to reduce the ammout of sugar in your daily coffee, try ordering a ristretto with one sugar and then cut down to a ristretto with no sugars.

Mothers day can be everyday with a little DIY and coffee

I found myself a little short of time come mothers day, and a young 10 year old daughter that was yearning to express her creative flair - both important priorities, and it was at that moment I realised how cost effective, simple to prepare and rewarding this idea could be.

I popped into our local supermarket and handed my daughter a shopping basket - that was perfect, because I really didn't want to have to shove an entire shopping trolley's worth of groceries into the resulting gift basket, because we all know that a girl will definitely shop until no more shopping can be physically done!

We filled the basket with all sorts of treats, biscuits, crackers, chocolate, grapes, cheese and a couple of bottles of wine - mostly for the appearance of the bottle, rather than the quality of the wine - I'm not that good at selecting great wines, so I just look for a nice looking label (typical guy huh!)

Armed with our goodies, we headed down to the dollar store and selected a suitable size basket to pop it all in. lined the basket with gift paper, placed everything in, and job done! we had enough change from $50 to grab a chocolate milkshake, a coffee and a muffin, each ;-)

This idea is so simple that I wont be waiting for mothers day in the future, its going to be an any-time gift. Just don't think less of me when one of the baskets contains a few more of the essentials, like apples, kraft cheese slices and a couple of bottles of milk - its the thought that counts, right?

You absolutely have to try Espresso Coffee and Tonic Water !

If there is one thing in my life I will always make time for, it is coffee. And when that coffee can be enjoyed in a different way, I will push every other non-essential task on my plate right out of the way!

Coffee and Tonic Water are a match made in heaven, and by heaven, I mean that cosy place you dream of where there is not a trouble in the world, ever. You have just one job this week, and that is to try Tonic Water mixed with Coffee Espresso.

Its so easy to prepare; grab a glass, extract a shot of coffee into the glass, add a couple of cubes of ice from the freezer and top it all off with cold Tonic Water - add a wedge of lemon or lime and call it 'knock off time'.

Grab a comfy chair, sit back and enjoy your moment of sunshine in a glass.
